How a Summer Trip Became a Life-Changing Move
Twenty years ago, I left Romania and came to the United States for what was supposed to be just a summer exchange program. The plan was simple: work for a few months, earn what I had been promised, and then return home. But nothing went as expected — the pay I received was nowhere near what I had been told. And then something else happened: I met Radu. He had come from Romania just a year before me, and meeting him, combined with the reality of my situation, changed everything. Instead of going back home, I made the life-altering decision to stay and start building a future here. (Spoiler: it was the best plot twist of my life.)
Working Hard, Searching for Purpose
From the beginning, nothing came easy for either of us. We both juggled two, sometimes three jobs at a time while going to school, determined to build a life we could be proud of. Radu had always dreamed of serving, and he fulfilled that dream by joining the U.S. Navy, where he continues to serve today. I, on the other hand, worked as a server, bartender, sales manager, office coordinator — basically every job except astronaut. But no matter how hard I tried, I never felt like I had found my calling. I admired my husband so much for knowing his purpose, and deep inside, I longed to find mine too.
A Struggle I Knew All Too Well
What I did know was struggle — especially the struggle of unwanted facial hair. For over 20 years, I tried everything: laser, waxing, shaving, tweezing, even medication. Nothing gave me permanent results, and the emotional toll it took was something I carried every day. Thanks to ChatGPT (yes, this is the part where I admit AI changed my life in an unexpected way), I found out about electrolysis. Out of desperation, I booked an appointment with Zapped by Rose — and that’s where everything changed. After just a few appointments, I started noticing real, meaningful progress. For the first time in my adult life, I felt true hope. I even caught myself staring in the mirror thinking, “Wait… is this what normal people feel like?”
Rose, the Electrologist Who Changed Everything
When I nervously told Rose that I was thinking about becoming an electrologist myself, I was afraid she might discourage me to avoid future competition. Instead, the exact opposite happened. She supported me. She pushed me. She told me I should do it — that the world needs more people who genuinely care about helping others feel confident again. Her encouragement was a turning point in my life and honestly restored a little bit of my faith in humanity.
And to this day, she continues to help me, guide me, and cheer me on.
Finding My Purpose
The transformation I experienced in those early sessions was so powerful that I made myself a promise: if electrolysis could change my life, I would spread the word and help other women feel the same freedom, confidence, and relief. That promise led me to pursue electrolysis professionally — so I quit my HR job and enrolled in the California Electrology Academy. For the first time, I didn’t just have a job — I had a passion. A purpose. A calling. (And a backpack again. At my age. Wild.)
Why I Do What I Do
Today, I dedicate my practice to helping others find the same confidence and comfort that electrolysis gave me. My two boys are my biggest motivation. I want them to grow up watching their mom build something meaningful, knowing that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself, follow what lights you up, or start a whole new career out of nowhere — even if they currently think my job is “zapping hairs like a superhero.” I’ll take it.
Where Purpose Meets Passion
Smooth Sensation is more than a studio to me. It’s the place where my personal journey meets my purpose — where I get to help others feel free, confident, and seen.
